Cupping Therapy is a "negative pressure" technique using silicon, rubber, plastic, and/or glass cups of various sizes in various combinations. A practitioner places the cups on targeted area and suctions the air out of the cup. Once the cup or cups are placed, the therapist may choose to let them sit for a few minutes or move them around. It is called "negative pressure" because rather than pressing into the musculature as we do in a traditional massage, the suction action of the cups help to gently pull up and stretch various layers of tissue. Pressure is adjustable from light to very intense. Benefits include but are not limited to: deep tissue release, stretches muscle and connective tissue, breaks up adhesions and scar tissue, stimulates circulation of blood, lymph, and Qi, assists with breathing issues such as congestion, relieve some of the pain and stiffness of arthritis. It should be noted that cupping is not suitable at all times or for all clients. Please refrain from booking a cupping massage if you are working with the following: cardiac failure, renal failure, severe edema, hemorrhagic diseases, broken bones, dislocations, slipped discs, organ failure, during outbreaks of hives, shingles, or herpes, 3D varicose veins, if you are currently receiving cancer therapy, if you are in your first trimester of pregnancy.
